"Any man or institution that tries to rob me of my dignity will lose."
In bidding a sad farewell to one of the greatest men the world has ever known, comes the understanding that there is still much to be learned from the words, actions and triumphs of Nelson Mandela.
Robbed of 27 years of his life, Mandela was sentenced to life in prison the year I was born - 1964. He was charged with sabotage and conspiracy to overthrow his government when he should have been credited as a guiding spirit, a human rights activist, a freedom fighter.
Mandela was a fearless leader who found it imperative to end the abuse, degradation and oppression of all people before he could rest and achieve peace within himself.
A bigger man than most in thought and action, his gentle demeanor, intelligent thoughts and articulate words will forever be a lesson in bravery, integrity and honor for all who are willing to listen and learn.
He made the world a better place, and his spirit will live forever.
